slenderbodies – king

Slenderbodies is an indie pop-duo based out of Los Angeles, California comprised of Max Vehuni and Benji Cormack. I first heard of the duo when my long time friend, coworker and roommate played me their music during a drive, insisting that I needed to hear their music. After getting out of the car I quickly found my way to a computer, so I could continue exploring their music. While in an interview they’ve stated their biggest influence as musicians has been Radiohead, I personally got a Glass Animals and Alt-J vibe when I heard this song. Their music perfectly encapsulates both live instruments and a digital sound, with their mesmerizing vocal harmonies and intricate guitar riffs.

Julia Jacklin – Pressure To Party

I discovered Julia Jacklin through Youtube, her newest music video for Pressure to Party appeared on my feed as a recommendation after listening to The Deer. She is a singer/songwriter from Sydney, Australia with a sound that can be defined as alt-country and indie-folk. Within the first 30 seconds I knew I had just come across a new favorite artist. Her sound instantly reminded me a lot of Angel Olsen and Courtney Barnett, two of my all time favorites. I then spent the next few hours listening to her entire discography, and watching nearly every video of hers on Youtube. I was excited to discover her new album ‘Crushing’ will be out Feb 22nd 2019, and she is playing a show in Austin, TX on June 4th at Barracuda with tickets going for only $13 pre-show or $15 the day of. I can’t wait to hear the rest of her new album and see her live in June.
